I’ve been asked why I wrote Entwined Hearts as a sensual/erotic romance while having a Demisexual main character - and the answer is pretty simple: It’s my authentic experience.
People often forget that Ace spectrum folk can have and enjoy sex, and have sexual desires - we just have varying levels of sexual attraction. For me, as a Demisexual individual, I have sexual desires and enjoy sex - but I didn’t have any sexual attraction until I met my partner.
I love Asexual and Ace spec romances - they make me feel seen, but I often also can’t relate to the sex repulsed characters because that’s just not my experience - and that’s okay! for that reason alone, I decided to write entwined hearts for myself; a book detailing a character with similar experiences to me as a Demisexual person with sexual desires.
I visibly marked the book as sensual and erotic to make sure it was clear from the get go where it was going. So, if you’re an ace spec person who enjoys sex - Entwined Hearts is here for ya. And if it’s not for you, that’s perfectly fine! I’ll let you know when I write a non-sexual/closed door asexual romance!
